Bhubaneswar, Nov. 11: Police today arrested a 26-year-old woman, along with her father and brother, on charges of killing her husband, who allegedly used to force her to sleep with others.
The deceased had in the past allegedly attempted to kill his wife.
The cops arrested Trupti Routray, her father Raj Kishore Mohapatra, 55, and brother Mahesh Mohapatra, 21, on charges of killing Pramod Kumar Routray, 44, who used to run a gas agency at Cuttack Road.
The businessman’s body was found in a water body near the Deras horticulture farm in the Chandaka police station limits on November 8. Trupti is said to have confessed to the crime.
The police said the couple had a disturbed conjugal life, and Pramod had been torturing Trupti mentally and physically for the past 11 years.
“Pramod had forcibly married Trupti, when she was only 15. She had been opposing Pramod, who was allegedly a habitual womaniser,” said a police official.
“Pramod, a sexually perverted man, used to force his wife to share her bed with others. Besides, Trupti’s parents were kept under perennial threat by the deceased,” said police commissioner R.P. Sharma.
The couple have an eight-year-old son.
The problem increased further after Pramod had cast his eyes on Trupti’s younger sister, whose marriage is scheduled to be held next month. A police official said Trupti lost her patience a fortnight ago after Pramod had offered her juice laced with 15 sleeping pills.
“She was rushed to a private hospital and survived. However, she feared that her husband might make another attempt to kill her and hence she plotted his murder,” he said.
According to the plan, Trupti added 25 sleeping pills in a protein juice on November 7 and offered it to Pramod. After drinking the juice, Pramod became unconscious. Then Trupti strangulated him with her dupatta. Later, she informed her parents about it.
Trupti’s father and brother reached the apartment where Parmod was living. They wrapped the body in two gunny bags and later dumped it in the water body. They used the deceased’s Ford SUV to dispose of the body.
Later, Trupti’s brother identified the body and told the police that Pramod had left his house on November 7 to attend a feast on the occasion of Chhadkhai.
However, the family members pleaded ignorance about who had accompanied Pramod on the day of the murder.
Initially, the police suspected business rivalry behind the murder as Pramod was involved in money lending business.
However, suspicion turned on the family members after the police found bloodstains in his SUV.
“We examined the CCTV footage of the apartment, which showed the car being parked. When we searched the car, bloodstains were found,” said a senior police official.
