Jajpur: A woman killed her alcoholic husband by setting him on fire because he used to thrash her and their children at Saruabili village in Kaliapani police limits.
Though the incident took place on Sunday night, the 36-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Cuttack on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Subash Singh, a driver by profession, police said.
The police have detained the deceased's wife and one of his daughters in this connection.
"Singh came home completely drunk on Saturday night and misbehaved with his daughter. When she opposed his behaviour, he allegedly beat her. Then Singh's wife and another daughter came to the rescue of the girl child. Singh then thrashed his wife and children further," said Kaliapani police station inspector-in-charge Yubaraj Swain.
Singh's wife and children overpowered him. They tied his hands and legs. Later, his wife poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
Singh raised alarm after she had set him afire. The neighbours then rushed and doused the flames. He was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
