Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: Captivating performances by well-known dancers and the enchanting music created by flute-player Srinivas Satpathy regaled the city audience on the third evening of the Barsha cultural festival yesterday.
Satpathy presented an ensemble of monsoon-based ragas like Miyan ki Malhar and Megha that celebrated the various moods of the season. He was accompanied by Sachidananda Das on the mardala, Biswaranjan Nanda on the tabla and Sursarita Rout on the tanpura.
Later, Odissi Guru Gajendra Panda presented a touching recital ‘Nayaka Anuchinta’ portraying the thoughts of a lover for his beloved who imagins how she must be alone and afraid of the lightning and thunder during the rain. Another Odissi recital by Aloka Kanungo also received appreciation from the audience. Kanungo also presented an abhinaya that revolved around the different aspects of the monsoon.
The evening ended with a group performance by Panda and his disciples,who rendered compositions such as Krishna Vandana and Dasavatara. “It has been a delightful event so far,” said Prabhakar Rout, a viewer.
The event depicted colourful dance and music performances.
