Cuttack, Jan. 7: Indian Idol fame singer Sohini Mishra was the main attraction on the third day of the ongoing 4th Cuttack Mahotsav here at Kala Vikash Kendra on Sunday.
Sohini — an emerging singer from Cuttack — belted out many hit numbers. But the one that stood out was the song Saans from Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Earlier, on Saturday evening, foreign artists such as Yukie Satoh from Japan and Chan Yu Kuo from China presented Odissi and Kathak, respectively.
Satoh, a disciple of guru Sujata Mohapatra, performed Saberi Pallavi, which is one of the toughest forms in Odissi because it involves intricate footwork and graceful postures.
However, the highlight of the evening was a Kuchipudi performance by Nemani Sai Gargi, a dancer from Nigeria. Gargi began with an abhinaya titled Bhama Kalpam and later performed the Dasavatar, which depicted the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
Apart from the foreign dancers, an Odissi performance by Satabdi Samantray and a Manipuri dance by Sudip Ghosh of Tripura, were also appreciated.
Ghosh performed Krishna Abhisara, depicting the fight between the ghungroo and Crown of Lord Krishna. Samantray, a disciple of the legendary Kumkum Mohanty, performed Desh Pallavi and Mangalacharan in which the artiste invoked Lord Ganesh.
On the opening day of the mahotsav, Jana Redechova and Daniela Kudickova from Slovakia matched steps to a Spanish dance. The 4th Cuttack Mahotsav is being organised by Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangha (UYSS). Dancers from 16 countries are taking part in the event.
The festival highlights Indian classical dance forms such as Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, Mohiniattam, Kathakali and Manipuri.
The cultural extravaganza concludes on January 10.
