Bhubaneswar: A minor girl was rusticated on Friday from her college after an intimate video showing her with another 19-year-old boy of the same institute went viral.

The incident, which took place in Nayagarh district, drew flak from activists across the state after the girl, a Plus Two student, was rusticated.

Though the incident took place last month, the video became viral a few days ago. In the video, the boy, a Plus Three student, was seen indulging in physical intimacy with the girl in a forested area.

Police said the girl lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday, accusing the youth of forcing her for physical intimacy at knifepoint.

"It is a shameful incident and the staff council took the decision to rusticate both the boy and the girl. We have also asked the father of the youth, who works as a peon in our college, to produce him before the police at the earliest," said the college principal.

"The accused is absconding, and we are trying to nab him," said Nayagarh police chief Ashish Kumar Singh.

Activists slammed the college authorities for getting harsh on the girl. "The incident must have left the girl traumatised, and she might be facing lots of difficulties in her village. But instead of counselling her, the decision of rusticating the girl is not acceptable, and it will further stigmatise her," said social activist Namrata Chadha.
