Berhampur, Aug. 29: The town is all set to get two new vending zones.

“At present, there are two vending zones functioning in Berhampur Municipal Corporation area. Two more are in the pipeline. The town’s third vending zone would open at Aska Road’s first gate, while Khodasingi will get the fourth vending zone,” said Bhim Manseth, commissioner of the municipal corporation.

“We would take steps to construct the third vending zone at Aska Road’s first gate during September. We have already levelled the proposed site after evicting encroachers from there. They all have been rehabilitated at a suitable place. The proposed site for the vending zone at Aska Road’s first gate is now lying vacant. There, we would construct the market and allot them accordingly to eligible persons,” he said.

Vendors of the Aska Road’s first gate bazar area are ready for displacement if they are provided a proper vending zone.

Former revenue divisional commissioner of southern division, Satyabrata Sahu, had proposed the vegetable market at the place to be shifted to an alternate site.

Earlier, vegetable vendors of the area had also submitted a memorandum for the purpose.

But now, most of the vegetable vendors in the gate bazar market, who are selling their vegetables on the roadsides, are reportedly willing to shift to the new proposed vending zone near the All India Radio station.
