Sambalpur, Aug. 8: The Class-III and Class-IV employees of Sambalpur University have been on strike, demanding fulfilment of their 11-point demand for the past three days.

The strike has affected the varsity's administrative works. The employees have kept the gates of the administrative building and the PG Council chairman's office locked.

Their demands include revised assured career progression for the employees, filling up of vacant non-teaching posts, regularisation of daily wage workers, teaching and non-teaching staff members of the Jyoti Vihar Junior College, filling up of vacant posts in the Jyoti Vihar High School, procurement of bus and repair of the administrative building and the staff quarters.

The administrative employees, working in the varsity's PG departments, supported the agitation. The central library has remained closed since Thursday due to the strike.

Moreover, the Jyoti Vihar Junior College and the Jyoti Vihar High School have also been lying closed because of the agitation. Though a discussion had been held between the employees and the vice-chancellor on Thursday afternoon, it failed to yield any result.

"The employees demand the revised assured career progression. But, we can't implement it without the government approval. However, we will hold talks with the staff and try to solve the matter shortly," said vice-chancellor C.R. Tripathy.

Employees' union secretary Mahendra Mishra, however, said: "We will continue our agitations till our demands are met. As our meeting with the vice-chancellor failed to yield any result, we were forced to launch the strike."
