Bhubaneswar, July 26: Results of the entrance examinations for admission into various post-graduation (PG) courses offered by Utkal University were announced today. Among all departments, the admissions for psychology have already been completed, while the results of zoology entrance examination are awaited.
The admission to other departments will take place between August 2 and 10. “The departments have finalised the merit list. Intimation letters are being sent out. Candidates can also check their names published on the notice board of the departments concerned and report to the university on their admission dates,” said P.K. Sarkar, chairman of PG council, Utkal University.
Around 8,000 students appeared for these qualifying tests, conducted between July 18 and 23. The entrance examination for masters in pharmacy and executive MBA is to be held on July 31.
“Another heartening trend we observed is that many students from states such as Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and reputed universities in Delhi applied for M. Tech, geography and English courses,” Sarkar said.
Just as in the past few years, the university received about 75 per cent applications from girl candidates this year. Sarkar said he would write to the state government to send funds for construction of more girls’ hostels on the campus. “Since there is a clear majority of girl students, we plan to write to the state government about the need for 300 more seats in ladies’ hostel,” he said.
Classes for first year post-graduate students are slated to begin from August 5.
