Bhubaneswar, Feb. 13: Police today recovered the bodies of two men from different places here under mysterious circumstances and suspected foul play in their deaths.
Officials of Capital police station this morning recovered the body of a trader from a lodge at Ashok Nagar, while the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized the body of a Class-IV railway employee hanging from the ceiling fan of a room near platform No. IV.
Both the bodies had several injury marks, which led the officers to suspect foul play in their deaths.
The police identified the trader as 35-year-old Siba Prasad Sahu from Rajakunda at Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district.
His body was recovered from a room on the first floor of the lodge located beside the Rajmahal overbridge.
“The body was found lying on bed with the face looking upward. There were some cut marks on the chest and right hand. The reason behind the death is still unknown,” said a police officer.
A lodge employee said Sahu had been staying there since January 11 and they had seen him last on Tuesday evening.
“We serve tea to all our customers in the morning. As there was no hotel boy today, I went to serve tea. When I knocked on Sahu’s door, he did not open. After knocking for around 10 minutes, I informed lodge owner Binay Pattnaik. He informed the police immediately,” said lodge manager Pradip Mohanty.
The police broke open the door and recovered the body.
Sahu’s cousin brother said the deceased had a grocery shop at his native place, but for the past one month, had been staying in Bhubaneswar.
“I do not know why he was staying in Bhubaneswar and under what circumstances he died,” said the cousin.
The police said Sahu had taken loans from many people at his village and to avoid them, he had been staying here for the past one month.
The GRP officials identified the other deceased as Kamlesh Kumar Singh, 30, who hailed from Piprahari in Bihar. Singh was a watchman with the East Coast Railway.
The police said there were marks on both sides of his neck, knee and toes.
Singh, who was staying here alone, had married a year ago and had a three-month-old daughter.
“The marks on his body indicate foul play. We have lodged an unnatural death case but are looking into all angles,” said a railway police official.
