Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly killed by the tutor of her 15-year-old son at his house at Housing Board Colony in Chandrasekharpur police limits this evening.
Police have detained the tutor, Rashmikanta Sahu, 30, and are trying to ascertain the motive behind the crime.
The cops said the deceased, Jaya P. Sheela, who was the wife of a businessman, a BJB Nagar resident, had gone to the tutor's house in a car this evening.
"The car driver told us that Sheela went into the house of the tutor while he waited in the car outside. A few minutes later, Sahu came rushing out of the house and told the driver that the woman had fainted because of some unknown reason," said a police official.
Later, the driver and Sahu rushed Sheela in her car to the nearest private hospital where she was declared "brought dead".
"Later, the driver alerted local residents shouting that the tutor had killed her. The local residents managed to catch hold of the tutor and handed him over to the police," he said.
Further investigations revealed that Sahu had been tutoring Sheela's son, who is a Class X student, for the past three years.
"Sahu used to come down to the house of the deceased to teach her son science. We are trying to ascertain the deceased's purpose of visit to the tutor's house," he said.
Deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said they were interrogating the tutor to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of homicide. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death," said Bhoi.
The cops suspect that the deceased was strangulated. The police said the deceased had a heated argument with the tutor at his residence over some matter.
"Sahu was a bachelor and staying alone in the house. There are superficial injuries on the body of the deceased," said the police official.
