Bhubaneswar: April 25: One person was killed and two were injured in two separate accidents in the city today.
The first accident in which a youth was killed, occurred at Baramunda Fire Station square on the NH-5 around 1pm.
The deceased was identified as Jyoti Ranjan Singh (25) from Unit VIII area in the city.
Singh, who worked with Tata Motors, was hit by a sand-laden truck while he was going to CRP Square on his motorcycle. He fell down after being hit by the truck and came under its wheels.
Employees of Baramunda fire station rushed Singh to Capital Hospital in their van.
“Hearing about the accident we rushed to the spot. The victim was lying in a pool of blood. He was still talking while he was being taken to the hospital,” said Vikash Ranjan Dalei, a fireman.
“Doctors at the hospital tried their best but could not save him. He had severe injuries to his kidney and urethra. Too much blood had been lost,” said Mithun Kumar Mallick, another fireman.
After the accident, the driver fled the spot leaving the truck behind. This led to a traffic jam in the area. It was only after the firemen removed the truck from the area that normal traffic was restored on the highway.
Later, Khandagiri police reached the spot and seized both the motorcycle and the truck. Police are looking for the truck driver.
In the second incident, two persons sustained injuries when the motorcycle they were riding hit a truck at Raghunathpur Square.
The injured, who were rushed to a nearby private hospital, have been identified as Tarun Pani and Kisan Pani.
According to Infocity police, who registered a case, the motorcycle riders were going from Patia to Raghunathpur when they hit the truck which was loaded with bricks.
It was coming from the Nandan Kanan side. Following the collision, the truck skidded off the road and fell into a nearby canal. Police have seized both the vehicles.
