Angul/Bhubaneswar, April 27: Two coaches of Ajmer-Puri Express derailed on the level crossing on NH-55 near Boinda Chhak, 38km away from Angul this afternoon, causing disruption in the movement of trains on the route.
The incident took place around 2.20pm. Luckily, no one was injured in the mishap.
However, vehicular movement on the national highway remained paralysed for about two hours as the train stopped on the level crossing on the NH-55. Later, a technical team of Sambalpur railway division shifted the bogies and making the highway clear.
A rescue and relief team was rushed to the spot following the derailment. “The passengers of the two affected coaches were shifted to the other unaffected coaches and the train was dispatched from the spot on a priority basis. Though our medical team reached the site with full preparedness, no medical attention was required as no one was injured in the mishap,” said a railway official.
While some stranded passengers waited for the train to resume its journey again, many other left the train and made road journey to reach their destinations. “We had to face difficulties as we were forced to take a walk in the hot afternoon to catch buses,” said a passenger.
East Coast Railway has ordered a high-level probe to ascertain the cause of derailment. An official in the railway said that the inquiry report would be submitted within seven days.
The mishap forced the authorities to divert, short-terminate and cancel few train running on the line. Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Intercity Express was diverted via Jakhapura and Jaroli towards Rourkela while Puri-Durg Express, which was scheduled to leave Puri today, was diverted via Vizianagaram and Rayagada instead of its scheduled route. Balangir-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express was short terminated in Sambalpur and was cancelled between Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar today. Rourkela-Puri passenger was short-terminated at Rairakhol and remained cancelled between Rairakhol and Puri.
