
Cuttack: Police have planned a three-tier security cover with deployment of 98 platoons ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit here to address a public meeting on Saturday.
Modi is set to address the public meeting at Killa Maidan to mark the completion of four years of his government at the Centre.
"A three-tier security arrangement has been deliberated in view of the Prime Minister's visit here on Saturday. Accordingly, requisition has been given for 98 platoons of police," deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said on Wednesday.
Police sources said the plan was chalked out after a spot visit to the venue of the public meeting by commissioner Y.B. Khurania and Cuttack collector Sushanta Mohapatra on Tuesday.
The security plan will be finalised after arrival of the team of special protection group of the Prime Minister.

The first tier will have personnel from the state armed police force, who will guard the venue where Modi will address the public meeting, while the middle layer will consist of sleuths in plain and uniformed clothes both from the Commissionerate Police as well as the crime branch. The third layer of security will man the outer-most post of the venues and roads, and these personnel belong to especially the police force in the city.
Specialised police personnel from the quick response team, Rapid Action Force, combat vehicles and snippers will be deployed at specific locations around the venue, source said.
Earlier, preparations for Modi's visit had been reviewed at a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport here around 3.30pm on May 26 and then fly to Cuttack by helicopter. He will leave for Delhi from Bhubaneswar after addressing the public meeting at Killa Maidan.
