Three held on rape charge

Baripada, April 16: Mayurbhanj police today arrested three persons for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman at Baisinga last night.

One accused is still absconding.

The woman, a resident of Gajari in the Bada Sahi police station limits, had visited her maternal uncle's house at Baisinga last night, along with her husband to watch a jatra.

During the show, she went out to answer nature's call outside the opera venue when one accused allegedly took the woman away with him while the other three overpowered her husband, who, however, managed to escape from the clutches of the goons.

The accused are alleged to have raped the woman in a deserted place. Later, her husband managed to trace the victim and reported the matter to other villagers who then lodged a compliant with Baisinga police.

Sub-divisional police officer Dhiren Chandra Nanda is probing into the incident.

"We have arrested three persons, and the main accused is still at large. The woman has been sent for medical examination, and the accused will be produced before court after the interrogation is over," Nanda said.

"A case has been registered. Efforts are on to nab the main culprit," he said.

Murder accused arrested

Police on Thursday arrested the main accused in the murder of an autorickshaw driver in Saliasahi slum on Monday. The police arrested Parama Rao from Ganjam for allegedly killing Kalia Pathan, an antisocial in the area. The police is also searching for the other accused in the attack.
