Bhubaneswar, Oct. 10: Theatre troupe Bijay Eka Uchwasa recently conducted a workshop for children.

About 27 students from Class VI to Class IX from schools across the city took part in the workshop called, Talim First, which began on September 17.

Danseuse Aruna Mohanty honed the dancing skills of the youngsters. While Odissi vocalist Ramahari Das imparted lessons in classical music, Anindita Das taught contemporary music.

The doyens of Odia theatre, Asim Basu and Bijay Mishra, taught the enthusiastic lot about story, drama and concept development. The kids learned art designing from Antaryami Panda.

The classes were held every day for three hours in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. The group also included some physically challenged children.

The organisers are happy with the result and wish to conduct similar workshops in other districts. “I do not think there has been any such workshop held before for the children. Such exercises help develop their personality,” said troupe president Narayan Pati.

Yesterday, the participants staged a play Chotta Mora Gaan Ti the theme of which is based on corruption. Subhranshu Parida directed the play. The differently-abled children performed a dance drama on the occasion.

“I would like to become a theatre or film actress when I grow up. We were taught everything about theatre. I am happy that the audience has appreciated our presentation,” said Sipali Prusty, a Class VII student.
