Bhubaneswar, July 20: Land owners will no more have to run to tehsil and other revenue offices for days together to update their land records or obtain any relevant document.

“All the 316 tehsils across the state will be connected through internet and all the land records will be available online,” revenue minister Surya Narayan Patro said today.

Modern computerised record rooms will be opened in all the tehsil offices across the state, he said.

“Steps will also be taken for making provisions for issuance of encumbrance certificates online at all the 177 sub-registrar offices by October,” said the minister.

Revenue circles will be opened in all gram panchayats in the tribal-dominated districts. This will help in settlement of land disputes in tribal areas. There have been allegations about grabbing of tribal land by non-tribals in several places in districts such as Koraput and Kandamal.

Information technology infrastructures will be strengthened in all revenue circles so that land records can be maintained and accessed online.

The land records will be maintained at three levels to ensure that such records will not be tampered at any level by people with vested interests.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik directed the revenue officials to expedite digitisation of land maps, while chairing a meeting here to review the progress of computerisation of land records.

According to an official estimate, there are about 1.3 lakh land maps in the state. These maps will be scanned and digitised.
