Jajpur, April 19: A college student was allegedly abducted and gang raped for over a month by four youths from her village at Singhapur in the district.
The youths abducted the 17-year-old girl while she was on her way home from college. The girl was allegedly taken to the house of one of the accused’s relative at Mangalpur where she was gang raped.
The incident took place last month, but the matter came to light yesterday, after police registered a case.
Police sources said the girl, a student of Plus Two arts, had gone to her college to collect her admit card.
On her way home, Sudarshan Malik, Hadibandhu Malik and Laxmidhar Malik, all of them aged between 22 and 25, waylaid and abducted her in a vehicle.
The girl was taken to a house at Mangalpur village in Sukinda police limits where she was gang raped for over a month.
The victim’s father, a truck driver, was away on a long road trip, and therefore the family did not file a missing complaint.
“I was returning home from college on a bicycle. Sudarshan, Hadibandhu and Laxmidhar stopped me on the way and dragged me into a vehicle. They took me to Mangalpur where they raped me,” the victim said in the FIR.
The girl escaped from the house on Sunday, when her captors were not home. She returned to her village and told her parents about the incident.
On Monday, her family members tried to file a complaint with the local police station.
When the cops refused to lodge the complaint, the girl moved the court of the judicial magistrate (first class) at Chandikhole, which directed the police to register the case and start investigations.
“We have registered a case. The victim has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for a medical check-up,” said Kumar Nayak, officer in charge of Kuakhia police station.
