There are some people who influence us more than others. There is something about their personality that attracts us to them. And we, consciously or otherwise, try to be like them —if not exactly, at least in some respect.

Living in this technology-driven era, I cannot think of a better role model than creative genius Steve Jobs, who was often called a tech czar.

A college dropout, Jobs and his friend Steve Wozniak in 1976 started a computer company Apple, which is today synonymous with revolutionary innovation. Eight years later, he came up with Macintosh, the first personal computer.

Jobs was then unfortunately caught up in a power tussle with the company’s board of directors and quit, but did not give up. He went on start another computer company and was associated with animation film production.

He returned to Apple in 1996 when the company was incurring heavy losses. In two years, he had single-handedly revived the tech giant, saving it from the jaws of bankruptcy.

With Jobs back at the helm, Apple went from strength to strength, delivering one mind-boggling product after another — iTunes, iPhone, iPad and many more, taking the company to new heights of success and popularity.

Battling against pancreatic cancer, Jobs resigned as the CEO of Apple because of ill health just two months before his death last October. Though he is no more, his work and words continue to inspire millions across the globe.

MY TAKE

Dream
“Come out of the
darkness, Oh my dear
open your eyes
The day is near”,
Whispered someone
near my ears,
I opened my eyes
And looked here
and there, but was
surprised to see a bird
sitting near.
It fluttered its wing,
And began to sing
“Come out of your dream Oh my dear
Open your eyes
The day is near.”

I am a tree
I am a tree, I am a tree,
Everyone takes fruits from me,
Everyone sits in the shade under me.
I take in dirty,
polluted gas, I give out air, pure and fresh.
I am a tree, I am a tree,
I give you wood and leaves, I give you herbs
and medicines.
My roots hold
the soil firmly,
My branches wave in the air lightly.
I am a tree, I am a tree,
I wish you to stand
tall and proud, with your roots deep in the ground. My presence is
beauty in nature,
My advice helps you
live better, I am a tree,
I am a tree.
