Tearful farewell

Pirambara Panda pays tribute to his son Pradeep Kumar Panda, who was killed in Sunday's terrorist attack on a CRPF camp at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, at Liploi village in Rourkela on Wednesday.

TEARFUL FAREWELL: Pirambara Panda pays tribute to his son Pradeep Kumar Panda, who was killed in Sunday's terrorist attack on a CRPF camp at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, at Liploi village in Rourkela on Wednesday.Pradeep was cremated with full state honours. He was given a 21-gun salute before his body was set on fire."I am proud as a father at the kind of farewell he received," said Pirambara. His brother, Dilip, a Border Security Force jawan, was also present."I may have been his elder brother, but he has inspired me on many occasions," he said.Staff members and students of Panda's alma mater, Dalmia College, paid homage to the slain soldier, while Sundargarh collector Vineet Bhardwaj said: "He will remain an inspiration for his sacrifice."Deputy inspector-general (western range) S Jalan, CRPF DIG Birendra Sharma, Sundargarh police superintendent Pinak Mishra and other officers were present to pay their respect.
