Cuttack: Vigilance court have convicted two headmasters of primary schools and another former panchayat executive officer in corruption cases and sentenced them to imprisonment for two to five years, along with fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5 lakh.
The special vigilance courts in Cuttack, Bhawanipatna and Phulbani awarded the sentences for submission of false medical certificate as well as misappropriation of government money towards kerosene under the public distribution system (PDS) and an amount meant for construction of school building, respectively.
On Thursday, the special vigilance judge court in Cuttack convicted Padma Charan Barik, a retired headmaster of Kanaguli Upper Primary School in Jagatsinghpur district, and sentenced him to two years rigorous imprisonment while imposing a fine of Rs 5000 in a false medical certificate case registered more than eight years ago, a vigilance (co-ordination) official said.
In another conviction on Thursday, the special vigilance judge court in Bhawanipatna sentenced Debarchan Majhi, a retired panchayat executive officer of Deypur gram panchayat under Sadar block of Kalahandi district, to two years rigorous imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 10,000 in a government money misappropriation case nearly five years ago.
On Wednesday, the special vigilance judge court in Phulbani convicted Naresh Digal, an ex-headmaster of Jagadi Project UP School under Tumudibandha block in Kandhamal district, and sentenced him to five-year rigorous imprisonment.
