
Bhubaneswar: Academics has turned into a fun affair for Arpita Patra, a class VIII student of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city.
Arpita is one among the 162 students from her school, who has been provided with a tablet to enhance their learning.Around 5,000 class VIII students of Kendriya Vidyalayas are being given tablets as a part of a pilot project, App-Deep, initiated by the Union human resource development ministry. "I am excited as this is a very new mode of study for us," she said.
The tablets will be used especially for science and mathematics and allow teachers to keep a track on whether students are actually studying at home. One school from each of the 25 regions has been selected by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan for the initiative where KV-3 has been selected from the Bhubaneswar region.Deputy commissioner of the sanghathan (Bhubaneswar region) A.V.L.J. Rao said: "The aim is to reduce the burden of heavy bag and make teaching in schools fully digitised."
To ensure that students do not misuse it by accessing social media sites, all such websites have been blocked.
"We will evaluate the performance of the students. If the pilot project is successful, it will be emulated in other classes that will be decided later," he said.
