Bhubaneswar, Oct. 9: The BJP state unit on Sunday started preparations for L.K. Advani’s proposed “Jana Chetana Yatra”, which will pass through the state during October 23 to 25.
The party’s state executive met on Sunday to chalk out details of the yatra schedule in Orissa, once a party stronghold. BJP’s national general secretary Vijay Goel said: “The focus of the yatra would be good governance and transparent politics.”
The BJP will highlight “corruption and failures” of the UPA government at the Centre and the BJD government in the state during the yatra, he said.
Advani’s yatra is scheduled to enter Orissa on October 23 near Sohela in Bargarh. The same day, a public meeting will be held at Sambalpur, a BJP bastion. The yatra will pass through Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack before its arrival at Bhubaneswar. A public meeting will be held at the state capital on October 25 before Advani’s departure from Orissa. The state executive today adopted a political resolution criticising the BJD government’s failure in tackling drought and floods in the state.
Dubbing the recent flood in the Mahanadi system as “man-made”, the BJP state executive blamed the state government’s “mismanagement” of water discharge from Hirakud reservoir.
The party also condemned the state government’s decision to spend Rs 1,298 crore hastily in just 45 days “keeping the coming panchayat polls in mind”.
The BJP also came down heavily on the Naveen Patnaik government for the deteriorating law and order situation and the growing Maoist menace.
