Bhubaneswar: A 65-year-old woman has accused her 42-year-old son of pushing her off the roof of their house in the Laxmisagar area.
Though the incident took place on Sunday, Manjulata Mohanty, the victim who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Uttara, lodged a police complaint on Thursday.
The victim alleged that the incident took place when she was on the roof to collect clothes hanged to dry.
"My elder son and his wife started arguing with me and he suddenly pushed me off the roof. I became unconscious and later found myself at a hospital. I came to know that some labourers working near my house had rescued me and brought me to the hospital. I was lucky not to have suffered head injuries," said the woman, who has been injured on her legs and hands.
The woman said she could not lodge the complaint earlier because she had been undergoing treatment.
"My elder son and his wife have been torturing me for the property. I never imagined he would go to such an extent," said Manjulata.
Police said the woman had three sons and two of them stayed with her.
"While the elder son has been trying to sell the property, the other two had been opposing this," said a police official.
The police have registered a case under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (use of obscene language) of Indian Penal Code.
"The police control van has received the information on the day of incident. We have also recorded the statement of the woman and further investigation into the case is continuing," said deputy commissioner of police Anup Kumar Sahoo.
The other son who stays in the same house demanded stringent action against his elder brother.
"I was in my room when I heard my mother and brother arguing. When I went up to the roof, I could not find her. I later found her lying on the ground," he said.
