Bhubaneswar, Aug. 28: The first Odisha Snooker Premier League sure has great talent and potential for entertainment of sports lovers.
The event will see four franchises competing for the winning amount of Rs 60,000 from September 2 to 6. Jerseys with team logos and merchandise of the four teams were unveiled today at Vintage Club, which is also the hosting the event along with Mahavir Group of Institutions.
At the jersey unveiling ceremony, all 16 players - four from each franchise - were present along with team owners. The 16 cueists were chosen out of 28 players during the auction last month.
There are four teams for the premier league - Q-ing Saddles owned by Autojinx, Baize Rulers owned by Blue Tech Products, Purple Squirrel owned by Purple Squirrel and Blue Hawks owned by JS Industries and Cresco Constructors. The players seem to be evenly distributed in terms of talent.
However, state champion Subrat Das, also the costliest player of the premier league at Rs 15,000, is part of Purple Squirrel. Senior-most cueist Ahsan Ul Haque, as well as Rakesh Roshan Pradhan and Chirag Arora, will play for Q-ing Saddles. These crucial players make these two teams early favourites.
Blue Hawks also has Jeet Kishore Das and Jiten Sarangi as senior players, while Baize Rulers have the talented Nishant Biswal and young gun Aaakash Mohapatra, who could turn the tables on a given day.
Each match will be decided on the best of three rule.
"I have been playing snooker for a long time and understand the nuances... I happily bought Purple Squirrel since this event aims at promoting cue sports," said team owner Govind Prasad Sharma.
