Uplift plan

Amrita Vidyalayam School near Bhubaneswar hosted a women empowerment and skill development program with participants from five states, including Odisha. They provided computerised vocational training for both social and economic empowerment of women from villages using tablet-based education. They also received training on health and hygiene awareness and sanitation of villages. The villages adopted in Odisha are Guptapada, Bindhyagiri, Mundasai and Haridamada in Khurda district from among which these women were trained.

Vocational camp

Students of classes VI and VII of Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, underwent a skill development training recently. They were taught various crafts making processes by experts.

Principal R.R. Senapati said the introduction to skill training at a young age would give the students an opportunity to explore various options and, accordingly, narrow down on a vocation of his or her liking.

Annual event

The annual event of Visionary International School in Bhubaneswar was held on March 12. Olympian Anuradha Biswal joined the event and interacted with the students on the various trends and opportunities in sports in the state.

The students were felicitated with endowment medals and trophies by the guests for their achievements in scholastic and co-curricular areas.

SAI honour

SAI International School bagged the Skoch Order-of Merit Award, 2018, and the Skoch Smart Education Bronze Award, 2018, for its system of academic monitoring. SAI Educational Group chairman B.K. Sahoo received the awards at the 51st Skoch Summit at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, on March 10. The Skoch Awards celebrate human excellence and agents of change in Indian society.

Teaching method

An upper primary school at Rasagovindpur block in Mayurbhanj district has earned global recognition for adopting interactive methods of teaching. Block education officer Rajesh Pradhan recently received the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Award, 2018, on behalf of the school in Nadi in Fiji. The students are being taught through innovative worksheets using activities such as paintings and other low-cost-teaching materials.
