Bhubaneswar, June 22: Those looking for Indian bridal wear with a western twist have ample reasons to rejoice.

Ruchika Halan and Ritika Halan Poddar, the sister duo from Bhubaneswar, launched their new product line titled Ruri4elite at a hotel on Saturday here.

Ruchika, who had done her MBA from a private institute in Noida, was inspired by the creative pursuits of her younger sister Ritika, a graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai.

She soon left her job and along with her sister set up a boutique near Ravi Talkies that will complete three years in October.

They became a favourite among the affluent class of the city for their designer western outfits.

After months of brainstorming and diligence, they have created a new product line that gives a western touch to the Indian pre-bridal and bridal wear. Both the sisters, in their early 20s wore sari gowns, which blends the sophistication of gown with elegance of sari, at the event. “The highlight of western gowns are the extensive drapes, while those of suit salwar and saris are the intricate designs. We have tried to blend both styles,” said Ritika.

The exhibition-cum-sale that concluded on Sunday evening had many colourful dhoti saris, salwar suit and gowns on display. All the pieces were priced above Rs 10,000.

Some accessories such as clutches and belts were also on display. They also create customised products keeping the requirements of the clients in mind.

“Gradually, Bhubaneswar is acquiring the cosmopolitan culture. The demand for products are fresh and unique is high. With the wedding season on, we decided to give the fashion conscious people of Bhubaneswar some out-of-the-box options to choose from,” said Ruchika. She also said that their product line fitted the bill for the upcoming festive seasons.

Products are made from the very scratch at their boutique. From sketching part done on the drawing board to fixing every single bead, mirror or sequin on the embroidered fabric, creating one designer outfit takes around 25 days. “The clothes are definitely different from the usual ethnic wear. I have a few ideas and am planning to discuss them with the designers. Hopefully, they will be able to create a perfect outfit for me,” said Prakruti, a college student, who had come looking for an outfit to be worn at an upcoming family gathering.
