Shows galore for investors

Thematic display kiosks, live demo of skills and interactive sessions with role models will be some of the highlights for visitors at the forthcoming Make in Odisha campaign, scheduled to start here on November 30.

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 23: Thematic display kiosks, live demo of skills and interactive sessions with role models will be some of the highlights for visitors at the forthcoming Make in Odisha campaign, scheduled to start here on November 30.

The Odisha Skill Development Authority will rope in trainees from the industrial training institutes located within 150km of Bhubaneswar to bring in some "surprise elements" during the conclave.

Some short-films, developed by the panchayati raj department, and another one on skill training will also be screened on the occasion. Utkal University vice-chancellor Ashok Das will give an editorial presentation for the Teach in Odisha programme.

The Make in Odisha conclave is being planned and organised jointly by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (Ormas) and the department of technical education and training to promote the state as a manufacturing hub and attract investments in various sectors. The department of industrial policy and promotion of the central government and the Confederation of Indian Industry are also collaborating in organising the event.

Through the event, the state government is planning to garner an annual special funding support of Rs 50 lakh for universities, institutes and agencies for various activities.

To encourage research and development in the biotechnology sector, the state government shall provide a one-time grant of up to Rs 2 crore to set up or upgrade centres of excellence by universities.

A special ramp walk will be conducted with uniformed skill development and polytechnic trainees of ITI, said the skill development and technical education department's under secretary B.B. Panigrahi.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar has designed the uniforms to be used for the purpose. The institute is also the organiser of the ramp show.

Sessions on focus sectors of Odisha identified by the state government, including smart city, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics, tourism, textiles and apparel, food processing, skill development, electronics manufacturing and information technology and defence manufacturing will be organised during the three-day meet.
