Annual days in schools across Bhubaneswar

CBSE exhibition

DAV Public School, Pokhariput, organised a three-day regional level CBSE science exhibition on its campus on "Innovations for Sustainable Development". The event was inaugurated by CBSE's regional officer Manoj Kumar Srivastava. Budding scientists from Odisha presented innovative models to curious visitors with more than 80 models from 48 schools from CBSE's Bhubaneswar region on display. The projects were judged by a team of professors and scientists from various premier institutes of the state. After repeated evaluations, 21 projects were selected for the CBSE National Exhibition, New Delhi.

Annual day

The 46th annual day of DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, Bharatikam, brought out the spirit of patriotism and the essence of cultural diversity that highlighted the uniqueness of India. The harmonious blend of music and dance marked the grand celebrations. The school choir enthralled the audience with soulful music, followed by the welcome address by principal Bhagyabati Nayak, who presented the school's annual report enumerating the achievements and milestones. Chief guest Nand Lal, Sri Sri University vice-chancellor, stressed on the responsibility and contribution as an Anglo-Vedic student towards society.

Social activist Tulasi Munda encouraged students to contribute towards society, help the needy and bring glory to our motherland.

Zero period

The Ganjam administration has decided to introduce zero period in all schools once a week to promote creativity and logical thinking among schoolchildren.

Children will be allowed to do whatever they like, under a teacher's supervision, during this time. In the first phase, the zero period will be introduced in select schools and will later be extended to the remaining schools depending on the response.

The zero period will be at least an hour long.

Spectra

ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar, celebrated its 29th annual function, Spectra, with pomp and show. Principal S. Minaketan presided over the event with KIIT University registrar Sasmita Rani Samanta as chief guest and Swami Sarbapriyananda from Chinmaya Mission as guest of honour. The evening witnessed student achievers awarded while the other students presented a cultural show.

Parents' day

DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, observed parents' day, Abhibyakti, for two days. Meritorious students, teachers and employees were honoured for their contributions, while nearly 1,000 students presented cultural programmes such as Odissi dance, Koli dance, and others as part of the Ek Bharat Srestha Bharat theme. Nurturing virtuous students is not only the responsibility of the school or teachers, but parents and society as a whole, said Orissa High Court Justice Debabrata Dash, who joined as the chief guest.

Science camp

Science and technology secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal inaugurated Science Camp - 2017, organised by Science Movement, a philanthropic initiative of Subhadra Charitable Trust, at the IIT Auditorium in Bhubaneswar. He welcomed the initiative of and said his department would like to discuss how to promote basic sciences.

Senior scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Rajesh Vatsa and Joseph Nathan also addressed the students. Shyam Sundar Raman from IIT, Delhi, through his energetic and motivational style, explained to the students that one had to observe, challenge, and verify instead of accepting concepts just because people believed the same for centuries in science.
