Bhubaneswar: Despite police warning of stringent action against people sharing nude photographs and sex clips, such videos continue to circulate with two such incidents involving girl students being reported here.

Though the police said they were yet to get any formal complaint regarding this, the clips had been shared on many social networking sites. "If we receive specific complaint, we will start an investigation," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

In November last year, director-general of police R.P. Sharma issued an advisory for the police and the public after more than a dozen of cases related to sex clips involving girls had been shared on social networking sites in various districts of the state in the past last three months.

Sharma had also issued a standard operating procedure for taking up investigation in such incidents.

It included registration of cases under relevant sections of law, the evidence to the gathered and detailed procedure of investigation.

The police issued the procedure after the number of such cases had increased in the state. The number was 42 in 2015 and 40 in 2016, but it increased to 93 by end of November last year.

Kharavela Nagar police on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly blackmailing a 24-year-old girl by creating a fake Facebook profile and sharing her nude pictures. The police said the accused, Subasis Routray, a salesman, was in a relationship with the girl. But later, she snapped it. Then the accused created the fake profile and shared her nude photographs.
