Cuttack, March 10: An overflowing drain at the entrance of Badambadi bus terminus has raised concern over sanitation measures adopted by the civic body here.
The main drain that passes through Badambadi bus stand has not been cleaned for more than a year, said Ratilal Mohanty, a local shop owner. Though the drain has been overflowing for the last two months, local traders alleged that the civic body had not initiated any measure to clean it. As a result, hundreds of passengers have a tough time wading through sewage.
“The entire area at the entrance of the bus stand has turned into a sewage pool. Cuttack Municipal Corporation has failed to address the problem,” said Dipankar Sahoo, a passenger.
“We have lodged several complaints. But the authorities are yet to carry out a de-siltation drive,” said Mohanty.
Kailash Rout, another daily passenger, said though waterlogging was a common feature at Badambadi every monsoon, accumulation of wastewater was posing serious health hazards.
District transport manager Sudhir Behera said: “We have asked the municipal commissioner to solve the problem urgently. The matter was also taken up at the traffic management committee’s meeting last month.”
An official of the municipal corporation said that various local hotels and street vendors had choked the drain by dumping garbage in it.
