Bhubaneswar, June 6: A 39-year-old man today alleged that three people had duped him and sold his kidney in Delhi in 2011. This comes within days of the arrest of three persons in connection with kidney sale.

The complainant, Ramesh Chandra Sahu, who works as a security guard, said he was forced to seek police help because the persons who had cheated him three years ago were threatening his family members after the kidney sale racket in Cuttack came to light.

Sahu, a native of Nayagarh district, said that he had landed in Bhubaneswar on March 2011 in search of a job where he had met Tuna Khan, who hailed from Nayagarh too. Later, Khan introduced Sahu to two of his associates, Nandi Sahu of Sonepur and Fakir Tandi of Nuapada.

“They took me to Delhi on the pretext of providing a lucrative job in March 2011 and made me unconscious by lacing my drink with intoxicants. The next day when I woke up, I found myself lying on a hospital bed. They told me that I had needed to undergo surgery for kidney stone. The operation took place at a private hospital in Vasant Kunj. After few days, they revealed to me that they had sold one of my kidneys to some rich person and gave me Rs 1 lakh,” said Sahu.

He also alleged that Khan had promised him more money, but never gave it.

Sahu returned to Bhubaneswar in April and worked as a daily wage labourer before getting the job of a private security guard a few months ago.

“The money they had given me was spent on my medical expenses. For the last two years, I have been requesting Khan to give me the additional money he had promised me because I needed it to cover my medical expenses. But he did not oblige. Since the kidney sale racket in Cuttack came to light, they have been threatening me and my family,” said Sahu.

Sahu today lodged a complaint with Lingaraj police station. Police commissioner R.P. Sharma said they were verifying the veracity pf allegations made by Sahu.

On June 2, the police had arrested three persons, including the brother of kidney recipient, in connection with a kidney sale at a Visakhapatnam-based private hospital on April 4. Before their arrest, police had also picked up Sarmistha Nayak, believed to be the kingpin of the racket.

Sarmistha was arrested following a complaint by a woman who said she was not paid the promised Rs 2.5 lakh for selling her kidney.
