Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital has come up with a campus-wide CCTV surveillance network with a central control room for stronger vigil on campys.
The cameras were installed in various departments in a phased manner over the past year. But, the project was completed with the integration of a command and control system at a central control room for a comprehensive surveillance system last week.
"The control room at the superintendent's office, along with the CCTV cameras in 56 locations, was inaugurated on March 28," hospital manager Soumya Mohanty said.
"The surveillance system also includes pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras installed at the two main gates," he said.
The PTZ cameras are capable of taking high-resolution images while allowing for remote directional change and zoom functionality.
Sources said the CCTV network covered locations in indoor wards of all the 20-odd departments, general outdoor, super specialty outdoor, casualty, hostels, nursing school hostel, regional diagnostic centre and the central store. The cameras have also been installed in the offices of principal and superintendent.
The Cuttack deputy police commissioner's office had recommended the improvement in surveillance on campus, along with CCTV installation at various locations, to ensure security to women attendants of patients, women staff members, girl students of medicine, nursing and other courses, doctors on duty.
