Rourkela: City girl Reema Laxmi Ekka has made it to the BCCI Senior Women's T-20 team for the Challenger Trophy.
Reema, who is the daughter of Rourkela Steel Plant employee Jinda Ekka and Anita Ekka, is a Plus Three Arts student at local Ispat Autonomous College.
Reema, who is known for her shy and unassuming behaviour, told The Telegraph: "I am happy that I have been selected. I will do everything to prove myself and one day I am dream of playing for my country in the regular team."
Reema counts cricketers Mithali Raj, Virat Kohli and Umesh Yadav among her favourites.
Regarded as one of the most promising and genuine fast bowlers with great potential, Abinash Khatua, who played for Odisha and the Eastern Zone, said: "She has everything for being where she is today. And definitely she will be going places in coming days. Her humility makes her stand out from others and it is crucial to succeed in the long run."
Speaking about her ability as a bowler, Khatua said: "She is a real raw talent and like diamond only needs further polishing. She has the physique for a fast medium bowler. Because she has height, she sometimes bowls the dangerous yorkers. Besides, she gives the last minute thrust into the delivery."
Reema started to play the game in 2014-15. Till now she has played five ODIs, 11 T-20s and 17 matches that include five inter-state under-19 ODIs.
Last month, she was selected to attend a special camp for promising pace bowlers and batsmen at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Besides, she is also a member of the state team. Reema's coach Alekh Chandra Barik has played for the state and zone and is now in-charge of the RSP team. Barik could not be contacted for comments.
