Policemen stand guard outside Ravenshaw University after inmates of the New PG Hostel sat on a dharna near the main gate of the varsity on Tuesday demanding immediate action against students of East Hostel following Monday night’s violence between boarders of two hostels. One student was injured and three vehicles damaged in the clash. East Hostel boarders also demonstrated in front of the vice-chancellor’s office. Alleging that the New PG Hostel students had provoked them, they appealed to varsity authorities for an impartial probe into the campus fracas. Two platoons of police force were deployed on the campus. “We have constituted a six-member committee that includes the superintendent and assistant superintendents of the New PG Hostel and East Hostel. They will conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report by tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon,” said registrar Padan Jena. Text: Vikash Sharma, Picture: Badrika Nath Das |
