Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Friday asked the state government to pay Rs 50,000 to the 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped by four uniformed personnel in a forest in Koraput district on October 10.

The commission also directed the state crime branch, which had been assigned to take up the case from police, to submit a report within four weeks.

The rights body has also asked the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes welfare department to admit the girl to Ekalavya Model Residential School. The girl had alleged of being gagged and gang-raped on gunpoint by four uniformed personnel in the Lanjiguda forest while she was on her way to school from Kunduli. The girl had also alleged of being dumped in the forest after the crime.

Superintendent of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, Sitaram Mohapatra, also appeared before the commission on Friday to submit documents sought by it. "I submitted the photocopies of treatment papers and bed-head tickets of the girl, who had been admitted in the hospital from October 10 to October 27," said Mohapatra.

Petitioner Prabir Das said the girl's studies had been hampered due to the trauma.

On Tuesday, Koraput police had ruled out any sexual assault on the victim based on her medical examination reports. But, her family members cried foul and alleged that the medical report was fudged. On Wednesday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a judicial probe into the incident, along with crime branch probe.

The crime branch investigators reached Kunduli on Thursday to probe the incident.
