Bhubaneswar: Class X student Anushka Vani could not hold her enthusiasm after the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination results were announced on Monday. She kept going back to her computer screen as it flashed her score - 96.8 per cent.

As soon as she got to know the results, she called all her friends and relatives. The Loyola School student said: "This day is very special for me. My friends and teachers are also very happy."

Despite scoring in the high nineties, Vani did not spend all her waking hours engrossed in studies. She spent six to eight hours a day studying for the exam and kept the remaining time to indulge in her hobbies and other co-curricular activities.

Of the 187 students, who appeared for the examination from her school, 64 scored 90 per cent and above.

This year, 1,83,387 students appeared for the ICSE examinations, while 80,880 took the ISC exam across the country. About 10,000 students from the state, including seven schools from Bhubaneswar, had appeared for the ICSE and ISC examinations.

From this year, the council reduced the pass percent for ICSE students to 33 per cent against 35 per cent earlier, while that for the ISC students was reduced to 35 per cent from the previous 40 per cent.

Leading English medium schools in Bhubaneswar, including as Loyola, Stewart and Venkateswar, all secured 100 per cent results.

Around 163 students took the ICSE exam from St. Joseph's High School, Bhubaneswar, of whom 74 scored 90 per cent and above.

"All the credit goes to my teachers and parents, who have supported me throughout. Concentration and hard work are required to score good marks," said Bipasha Dutta, who scored 98.5 per cent.

Leading English medium schools in Cuttack, including Cambridge, Stewart School, St Joseph's, St Xavier's and SCB Medical Public School, also recorded good results.

According to an announcement on the council website, the ICSE Marksheets and pass certificates will reach the schools by May 25, while those for ISC will arrive by May 19. Candidates who want to submit their papers for re-evaluation have till May 21 to apply.
