Sambalpur, Aug. 6: The worn out road between Lakshmi Talkies Chhak-Ainthapali Chhak Road will finally get re-laid with the public works department (PWD) giving its nod for re-laying the stretch, considered as the entrance to the city.

P.K. Nath, assistant executive engineer of the PWD, said: "The estimate for relaying the road is being prepared and the tender for the project will be floated shortly. The re-laying will start after monsoon."

Nath said mastic asphalt would be used on the railway overbridge in front of the Gangadhar Meher College, which lies on the same stretch to prevent vehicles from skidding.

The Lakshmi Talkies Chhak-Ainthapali Chhak Road stretches for 3.5 km and is one of the busiest roads here. It connects the city to NH-6 and also leads to the Ainthapali bus terminus. Thousands of vehicles ply on the road daily. "Driving on the road has become troublesome. However, it is good news that re-laying will be carried out," said Ranjan Pradhan, a regular commuter.

"Dust rising from the potholes causes severe inconvenience to commuters. Every time a four-wheeler passes by, the dust fills the air and causes severe inconvenience to the people. People who have houses along the road also face similar problems. The authorities concerned should take immediate measures to resolve the issue," said another commuter, Dinesh Satpathy.

Nath, however, said that they had started repairing the road to provide temporary solution to the commuters.

"However, the problems will be fully resolved only after the re-laying is complete," he said.
