Life was thrown out of gear with several places in the state, including Bhubaneswar, receiving rainfall, which brought the day temperature down significantly.
Balasore received 63.8mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, followed by Daringbadi and Gopalpur, which received 50.4mm and 46.2mm rainfall, respectively.
Similarly, Cuttack received 39.6mm rainfall, while Bhubaneswar’s count was 6.5mm in the past 24 hours.
Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre Sarat Chandra Sahu said the rainfall was due to a high-pressure system that had been formed over the Bay of Bengal and a whirlwind formed between Odisha and Jharkhand.
The Met director also said the rainfall would continue till March 12 and the day temperature was likely to increase from March 15.
