The rain on Wednesday brought daily life to a standstill in the state capital. Residents were reeling from the heavy rain as severe waterlogging conditions at several places reduced traffic to a standstill.

The downpour, which started at 2:30pm, continued for about four hours. Commuters faced trouble on the approach road of NH-5 near Iskcon Temple at Nayapalli since they had to make their way through knee-deep water.
The incessant rain, according to the local meteorological centre, was caused by an after effect of the depression over the Bay of Bengal that made landfall near Puri around 8:30pm last night. The local Met centre recorded 62.3mm of rain in the city between 8:30am to 5:30pm.
