Koraput: The ministry of defence has proposed to set up a new National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters in Koraput as part of its expansion plans.
The new group headquarters will be an addition to the existing three in Berhampur, Cuttack and Sambalpur.
"The ministry has urged the district administration to provide a 10 acre patch at the district headquarters town for the establishment of the group headquarters. Work on the new headquarters will begin once the land is earmarked," said Col Rajesh Kumar Rao, officer commanding, 1 (Odisha) INF INDEP COY NCC in Jeypore. At present, the group headquarters in Berhampur have jurisdiction over Odisha's southern districts.
Rao said cadets from Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Kalahandi districts would be covered and trained under the proposed group headquarters. The establishment of the new group headquarters would increase NCC activities in the region and give rise to more units.
