Cuttack, Feb. 18: President Pranab Mukherjee will attend the second convocation of National Law University, Odisha, on August 8.
University vice-chancellor Srikrishna Deva Rao today announced that the President had given his consent to attend the convocation as chief guest.
'We have received the letter from the President of India's office last night. He will deliver the convocation address,' Deva Rao told The Telegraph.
The vice-chancellor said the second convocation of the premier law school would be held on the varsity's Kathajodi campus.
The university's first convocation was held at the Ravenshaw University's convention hall on May 18 last year.
At the event, 113 graduates, including 10 LLM and three PhD students, were conferred with gold medals.
A varsity official said that this time, around 120 students, including the LLM and PhD students, would receive the degrees and gold medals, while a detail programme would be shortly made to make the event successful.
'We will shortly complete the necessary formalities and chalk out a detail programme for the second convocation after holding talks with senior officials of the state government and others,' Deva Rao said.
The institute earlier used to function from a rented building. Later, it got shifted to Naraj after chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the main campus in 2012. The present campus now spreads over 50 acres allotted by the state government.
Apart from imparting law education to students, the varsity is also extending legal support to the weaker sections of the society as well as women and children.
