Bhubaneswar: Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said time had come for Odia boys to be owners rather than working for others.
Attending the valedictory event at the two-day Odia Parva at Surat in Gujarat, Pradhan said: "Time has come to build a new Odisha. All should take a pledge to this effect." The Odia Parva was organised to showcase the rich cultural, history and legacy of Odisha.
Pradhan said: "In the field of textile, Odisha is the most progressive place. Many Odias are working in the textile industries. Odisha should gain from their experiences."
As a part of the Odia Parva, IndianOil Corporation Ltd., under the aegis of the ministry of petroleum & natural gas, in association with ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPAL), on Sunday held an investors' meet to unfolding mega opportunities in textiles & plastics downstream sectors in Odisha.
More than 1,000 delegates had attended the meet. Chairman, IndianOil, Sanjiv Singh, said: "IndianOil has invested Rs 35,000 crore in the Paradip refinery. A new polypropylene unit of 700KTA (kilo tonnes per annum) capacity is getting ready at the Paradip refinery complex to support the plastics industry. Estimated to cost Rs 3,150 crore, the plant is getting ready to be commissioned by the end of this year. We are also planning to set up an integrated PX/PTA Plant and a Glycols Plant at Paradip at a combined investment of Rs 13,000 crore. The PX/PTA and Glycols plants will provide the raw material to catalyse the development of a world-class integrated textiles park being planned by the government of Odisha at Bhadrak."
Giving a presentation how Odisha is conducive for the growth of plastic industry, he said: "Indian Oil has entered into a joint venture with Idco to develop the Paradip plastics park for Rs 106 crore to provide a state-of-the-art manufacturing base for the downstream plastics industry in Odisha with support facilities ranging from warehouse for raw materials and finished products, product testing facilities among other things under one roof," he added.
He said the plastics park in Paradip, being jointly developed by Idco and Indian Oil, would utilise polypropylene from the Paradip refinery.
The park is spread over 120 acres, out of which 70 acres will be available for industrial plots.
