Bhubaneswar, Jan. 18: The city police moved the local court yesterday seeking direction to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to handover two of its jawans accused in an assault case to the police for interrogation.
The two jawans, who are currently under suspension, have been accused of assaulting an engineering student, Pramit Kar, at the Biju Patnaik airport on Friday following an altercation over parking.
Police officials said that as the CISF was not ready to hand over the jawans to the city police, it had to seek the court’s intervention in the matter.
The two accused jawans are N.K.Pradhan and R.K.P. Singh.
The deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Himanshu Lal said that the prayer was made before the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court, Khurda.
“We are waiting for the court’s decision (as the CISF was not ready to handover the jawans),” said Himanshu Lal.
Following Friday’s incident, when the boy was allegedly beaten up at the airport where he had gone to drop his parents, the Airfield police had registered a case against these jawans following a complaint from Kar.
In the wake of the incident the deputy commandant of CISF, M.K. Yadav, posted at the airport, was also shifted from Bhubaneswar.
The new deputy commandant Y.P. Singh Meena has already joined duty.
The deputy inspector general (DIG) of CISF A.N. Mohapatra had also visited Bhubaneswar in the wake of the incident and hinted at the possibility of a departmental inquiry.
He had also said that the jawans would remain under suspension till the inquiry was over.
While he assured stringent action against them if found guilty, he rubbished allegations that CISF was not cooperating with the local police in the matter.
