Cuttack/Bhubaneswar Sept. 21: Police today sought from the CBI details on the team that landed at the official residence of a Orissa High Court judge in the small hours of Wednesday to carry out a raid over a corruption charge registered against another retired judge, who used to reside at the same address some seven years ago.
Cantonment police registered a case against CBI officers for allegedly trespassing on the residence of Justice C.R. Dash yesterday. 'As soon as we get the details, we will serve showcause notices to the officers,' Singh said.
Officers of the CBI's anti-corruption branch reached ISO4, the residential premises of Justice C.R. Dash at Gopabandhu Marg in Cuttack around 2am on Wednesday to carry out a raid. But they left in a huff after noticing the nameplate.
Leaving no stone unturned to draw political mileage from the incident, the BJD and the BJP condemned the CBI. Minister Damodar Rout said: 'This is most unfortunate. The CBI should not go to the house of a sitting judge at midnight.'
The BJD also said the CBI tried to threaten the sitting judge and put pressure on him not to grant bail to BJD leaders arrested in money deposit collection cases. 'They had an ulterior motive and it was to issue a threat. But they have failed,' said the BJD's Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debasis Samantray.
BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra said: 'The CBI has committed a crime by trying to trespass the house of a sitting judge at midnight. It should be condemned by all.'
However, BJP spokesperson Prithiviraj Harichandan was guarded in his comment. 'They have not done the right thing. But no attempt should be made to politicise the issue,' he said.
