Police recover stolen ornaments

Police have recovered 2kg gold and 3kg silver ornaments from Jilundi village in Bhanjanagar police station limits that was looted from a jewellery shop at Kumuti Sahi in Ganjam district on October 31.

Berhampur, Dec. 24: Police have recovered 2kg gold and 3kg silver ornaments from Jilundi village in Bhanjanagar police station limits that was looted from a jewellery shop at Kumuti Sahi in Ganjam district on October 31.

"The police arrested the main accused, Govind Patra, from his house at Jilundi last night and forwarded him to court today," said inspector in charge of Buguda police station Ranjan Kumar Dey.

Six persons had looted more than 4kg gold ornaments worth Rs 1 crore from the jewellery shop.

Sanyasi Nayak, 58, of Rampuda and Radhakanta Jena, 48, of Sunakara were arrested on November 29 on charges of receiving the booty. Gold ornaments weighing 600gm, 3.5kg silver and Rs 51,000 in cash was seized from them.

"The robbers came on two motorcycles and entered the shop after firing some blanks. They had guns and locked all of us in one room before escaping with the ornaments," Gopal Krishna Achari, the owner of the shop. The closed circuit television camera footage helped the police to identify the robbers.
