Balasore, Sept. 29: Four persons, including a pimp, a 45-year-old woman, and two of their clients were today arrested for alleged involvement in a sex racket in Jaleswar.
A 21-year-old woman, who was forcibly engaged in the trade by the accused, was rescued by the police and was sent back to her family in Nilagiri, around 20km from Balasore town.
The accused were identified as Umakanta Si, 25, of Nahanjara village and his associate, Laxmipriya Giri, of Kamarsalia village. The customers were Shiekh Asiruddin Saha, 25, and Nasiruddin Saha, 23, of Patharapura village under Jaleswar block.
The police seized contraceptives and alcohol from the spot. “We have seized four mobile phones and Rs 6,800 in cash. The prime accused — Umakanta — had been running the racket for one-and-a-half months from a rented house. The accused was running the racket despite opposition from the owner of the house and local residents,” said Saujit Pradhan, inspector in charge of Jaleswar police station.
The police said the accused used to bring women from places such as Balasore, Bhubaneswar and even Dantun, Belda and Digha in Bengal.
