Bhubaneswar, Dec. 11: A social service organisation from the city hosted an awareness programme on cleanliness in the mountains by uncontrolled human activities at the third edition of Patha Utsav here today.
Members and volunteers from Peoples' Cultural Centre took part in the event in an attempt to create an impact in people's minds about the importance of conserving nature.
Over 50,000 people from various areas in and around the state capital took part in the event.
One of the highlights of today's event was Coffee Byte, a news location that had pictures of the latest and upcoming events from the city, pictures of Patha Utsav and of programmes held across the state.
Rudra Narayan Sam-antray, the man behind the idea, said: "Apart from making weekly appearances at a designated location along the Patha Utsav path, the kiosk would also be taken to other locations in the city. After a year or so, the collections would be compiled into a coffee table book."
People associated with the kiosk also organised an event for autistic kids as they were given a tour across Janpath by volunteers.
Apart from the regular library and writing of tiny story-writing sessions, visitors and participants of today's events also witnessed a storytelling session with Clover Bolton, an American storyteller who proved to be quite a hit among children.
"She was very expressive and I could listen to her without a break. Most of the stories had social messages, while many were just for fun. It was a very enjoyable experience," said Ashish Mishra, a student of Class V.
The Bal Kalakaar activity, organised in collaboration with AIESEC, provided a platform for children to showcase their talents in art, music and dance.
Apart from cycling, walking and recreational events at Stage I and II, events such as group dances and zumba, physical fitness exercises, a kiosk on Swachh Bharat Mission by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to make citizens aware about the Swachh Survekshan 2017 mission also attracted a large number of visitors.
Art and craft activities by institutes based in Bhubaneswar - I am Artist, Art Godaam and Art Ya Craft - also proved to be quite a hit among the visitors. The cycles were managed by Jay Odisha and skaters were from Odisha Skating Academy.
Musical group Ama Kalakar Parivaar and Shakuntala Music Group attracted crowds with their performances.
Local sensation Rahul Dhal Praharaj presented renditions of many hit songs from the yesteryear.
Monalisa Patnaik, a resident of Saheed Nagar, who took part in the event held on the Ama Sahara, Ama Rasta theme, said: "The crowd is growing every week. Becoming a part of the event is a good way to utilise Sunday winter mornings."
