Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) has started commissioning various expanded capacities of its alumina refinery at Damanjodi including cogeneration power plant, evaporation plant, stacker and bauxite circuit for production of alumina. The work at the refinery in Damanjodi was hit after the Maoist attack there in April 2009, when several contractors and their workers left the place. Some work was then off-loaded to other contractors. Under the second phase of expansion, Nalco is enhancing its alumina refinery capacity from 1.575 million tonnes to 2.1 million tonnes. Further, the company has placed order for equipment to upgrade the total alumina capacity to 2.275 million tonnes under its 4th stream upgradation programme. The train would now with 22 coaches including one AC two tier, four AC three tiers, 12 sleeper class coaches, two general second class coaches, two guard-cum-luggage vans and one pantry car. Sambalpur: Tribal organisations of Sambalpur have sought the intervention of the revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) of northern division in the matter of transfer of land belonging to an SC/ST community member to a non-SC/ST. Adivasi Dalit Sena of Sambalpur, on Monday, took the matter to the notice of the RDC of the northern division and asked the administration to implement of the instruction issued to all the collectors of the division in 1998. Adivasi Dalt Sena, in a petition to the RDC, has requested to investigate into the matter and review the permission given for the transfer of SC/ST land to a non- SC ST. Cuttack: Six persons were arrested with around 15 kg of deer meat at Ramkei village near Khutuni on Monday. A special team of the Athgarh forest division seized the deer meat from Ramkei, 2km from Athgarh around 8am. “We got information that a deer had come out of the nearby jungles and was being chased by some dogs. Six persons have been arrested and 15kg of meat has been recovered from their possession. Whether the dear was killed by the dogs or the men would be ascertained from the post-mortem report,” said Athagarh DFO S.K. Behera. All the accused have been arrested under the Wild Life Protection Act.
