Paradip: Further intensifying its protest against land acquisition exercise, the United Action Committee (UAC) on Sunday asked the state government not to go ahead with acquiring betel vine yards for Posco steel plant project till their ‘genuine’ demands are met. The outfit, friend-turned-foe for the Jagatsinghpur district administration, organised a rally at Sidhagumpha village under Nuagaon gram panchayat and reiterated its opposition to the land acquisition process. Strategies and action plans need to be formulated for conserving agri-diversity, soil and micro-biodiversity, biodiversity of animals, fishes and aquatic fauna and for biodiversity conservation in forest eco-system of the state,” Patnaik said, while addressing a state-level event to observe Forest Bio-diversity Day. Cuttack: Suspected Maoist leaflets were recovered on Sunday from Bentkar village under Bayalish mouza in the district. Local villagers stumbled upon the literature from the roadside in the morning. The recovery has created fears in the minds of local residents. Police, however, have ruled out the presence of rebels in the area.
