Cuttack: Cuttack police on Monday busted a gang of robbers that had recently looted silver ornaments from a filigree shop in the city. Six people were arrested while silver ornaments weighing 11.731kg has been recovered, said deputy commissioner of police Amitendra Nath Sinha. “We have arrested six persons and have recovered the looted jewellery, the cost of which is estimated to be around Rs 4 lakh,” he said. The incident of looting had occurred on March 6. The men had reportedly drugged the owner of the filigree shop, Ramesh Kumar Varma, and decamped with the jewellery. “Two men had come to my shop asking for silver ornaments. After going through the stocks, one of them asked me for water. Later, they brought three cold drinks and I fell unconscious after consuming one of them,” said Varma. Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Rourkela following a clash between CRPF jawans and a group of shopkeepers at the Ambagaon area of the town on Monday. Three shopkeepers and a CRPF jawan were left critically injured in the incident. The shopkeepers and the jawan are being treated at the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela. The incident took place during the afternoon when two CRPF jawans reached an electrical shop in the Ispat market area. As per eyewitnesses, the jawans purchased goods worth Rs 824 but paid Rs 820 to the shopkeeper. However the shopkeeper, Peshkar Singh, insisted for Rs 4 more. At this, the jawans reportedly took out their rifles and began threatening the shopkeeper. The neighbouring shopkeepers reached the spot and protested. The jawans left the spot and returned back with 20 more of them, all of whom began assaulting Singh and others. Most of them received head and face injuries. Three shopkeepers and one jawan were left critically injured in the incident. Bhubaneswar: Unidentified persons on Monday looted Rs 5 lakh from a local resident in Rourkela. The victim, Anand Agrawal, a businessman, was on his way back from a local bank with the cash when two persons intercepted him and demanded the money and his mobile phone. When Agrawal refused to give away the money, the duo assaulted him and escaped with the booty on his motorcycle. Agrawal has been admitted to a private hospital in Rourkela. Police are investigating into the case. Bhubaneswar: Rayagada police on Monday arrested seven persons for trying to illegally transport ores from the state. Two trucks containing the ores have also been seized. The ores were being transported to a place in Andhra Pradesh, confirmed Police. The cops are yet to identify the ores or estimate its price. “We have called for the help of a mining officer who will examine the material and confirm,” said a police officer.
